Annual Giving Day 2024 | Science Centre

Opened on 14 March 2014 by Dick Smith AO and Professor Ian Chubb AC, who was at the time Australia’s Chief Scientist, the Science Centre has become a hub of learning.

The generosity of the King’s community enabled the development of the Science Centre, which has provided our students with a world-class learning environment, with 18 science laboratories and commercial-level research facilities.

The opening of the Science Centre has meant King’s further strengthened industry–school partnerships, with industry partners working as tenants in the research facilities and through The Future Project providing students the ability to work on authentic research.

The Future Project’s current anchor tenant and major program partner in the Senior School Research Precinct is BiomeMega. The partnership delivers quality internships and other opportunities for King’s students, who work with BiomeMega’s scientists on cutting-edge research and development into obtaining membrane-bound Omegas as post-biotic ingredients for use in nutraceuticals, cellular cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals. Focus areas for student interns’ learning and discovery include deep technology and synthetic biology, precision fermentation, and bioengineering to promote innovation.

Other current program partners with The Future Project program include the Sydney Robotics Academy and The Westmead Institute for Medical Research.

Since 2014, the Science Centre development has provided a state-of-the-art facility for King’s students to work with organisations through The Future Project. Over the last decade, the interns have gained valuable real-world collaboration and research experience by collaborating with several industry partners, including Quantal Bioscience, VOW, HydGene Renewables, the University of New South Wales and Western Sydney University.

These opportunities for our students have been due to the Science Centre development, which was only possible through the support of the King’s community and the work of The King’s School Foundation.
