Annual Giving Day 2024 | WS Friend Sports Centre

On Homecoming Weekend in 2007, as part of the terquasquicentennial (175 years) celebrations, the WS Friend Sports Centre was officially opened.

The generosity of the King’s community enabled the building of the Sports Centre to take pride of place where Hake House once stood.

Since its opening, the WS Friend Sports Centre has been an important facility for both the sporting side of The King’s School and also the community aspect, with a gym, stepped seating and three basketball courts where several sports, including volleyball, can be played.

The Sports Centre is also a hub for our Gowan Brae students, providing them with a space to have lockers.

Along with being a key venue for our newest Senior School Kingsman, the WS Friend Sports Centre is also an important place for our oldest students departing the School, being home to our Graduation ceremony.

The stepped seating along with the indoor space has meant it has been an ideal location to send off our graduating students each year.

The Sports Centre facility has also provided a home for our Festival of Lessons and Carols, one of the key events in The King’s School calendar.

Like many of the School’s facilities, The WS Friend Sports Centre was only made possible through the support of the King’s community and the work of The King’s School Foundation.
