Britten House celebrated its 60th Birthday on Friday 21 July at the new residence for the Britten ‘mustard’ boys, which opened in 2019. There were many special guests in attendance, including former Britten Housemaster Rob Rowland Smith (1984-1990), who spoke with passion and delivered a strong and encouraging message to the Year 11 and 12 boys who were present.
Britten Old Boys from the various decades were there, all keen to see the new House and to catch up with their peers and former staff. This included 1983 Vice Captain Aaron Malouf, 1989 Captain and School Captain James Pyne, 1991 Captain Matthew Gerber, 1993 Captain and School Captain Jamie Robinson, 1998 Captain Mike Symons (Director of Community Engagement), 2003 Vice Captain Robbie Williams (Baker Hake Housemaster) and 2013 Captain Rob Black (Rowing Coach and Boatshed Supervisor).
Adding to the crowd were current King’s staff members and Britten Old Boys – Wes Dunne (Deputy Head – Co-curricular) and Josh Chapman (Science teacher and MIC Basketball).
The boys and staff of Britten House today remember Herbert Edward Britten (1879-1885) – an exemplary former student and dedicated servant of The King’s School.
60 years on, the fabric of the House is in wonderful shape, just ready for the next decade!
