International students
The King's School has a rich and longstanding tradition supporting the education of students from other countries. International students make an important contribution to our boarding and wider School community, and do much to bolster our reputation for academic excellence and leadership.
Living in a new country is an adventure. It can also be a long way from the support network of a student’s family. The renowned Pastoral Care program of The King’s School assists students to develop a sense of belonging and promotes their wellbeing.
For international students on a 500 subclass Visa, boarding is compulsory and a guardian who lives locally must be nominated by the parents. Local guardians are interviewed prior to the time of student enrolment. Accommodation provided by the local guardian for the student will also be reviewed prior to enrolment.
Entry is usually for the start of the academic year, however, registrations for entry at other times will be considered.
English language proficiency requirements
We require different levels of English ability for students entering at differing levels. In general terms, the older an applicant is, the higher their English fluency must be to cope with the academic demands.
Applicants to Years 3-6 Tudor House should be able to communicate in simple spoken and written English. This will be assessed at the time of interview and the student may be required to complete a handwritten task.
For applicants to Years 7-11, the completion of an AEAS assessment is required and must be submitted at the time of enrolment registration.
Minimum English language requirements are as follows:
- Year 7 – AEAS 70%
- Years 8-9 – AEAS 75%
- Year 10 – AEAS 80%
- Year 11 – AEAS 85%
Visit the AEAS website for further information or to apply for AEAS testing.

Approach and policies
The King’s School strives for international students to have a safe, enjoyable and rewarding place to study, in line with Australian laws that promote quality education and consumer protection for international students. These laws are known as the ESOS framework, under which The King’s School operates.
Upon commencement at The King’s School or The King’s School, Tudor House, International students take part in an Orientation Program. This program assists students to settle, integrate and feel strongly connected with the wider school.
The King’s School has a number of policies in place in relation to the enrolment and attendance of international students, covering staff, students and parents, which are available from the Enrolments Team upon request.
